The city of Great Bend is located in central Kansas, about 4 hours west of Kansas City and two hours northwest of Wichita. As the name suggests it sits just north of a great bend of the Arkansas River.
Great Bend is a Birding Paradise. Bordered by the Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area to the north and Quiviria National Wildlife Refuge to the south and sitting in the middle of the Central Flyway it attracts over 300 bird species and numerous bird lovers.
Notable attractions in and around Great Bend include Brit Spaugh Zoo, which is home to over 100 animals including three lions, Bengal tiger and Black bears and Brit Spaugh Park where the Wetlands at Great Bend Aquatic Facility is located.
