The city of Ottawa, Kansas is located in northeastern Kansas, about an hour southwest of Kansas City. The Marais Des Cygnes River flows through the city.
The city has a revitalized downtown area with many specialty shops. A few blocks to the east is the campus of Ottawa University, established in the mid 19th century by Baptist missionaries for the education of the local Ottawa Indians.
Points of interest include the Old Depot Museum, the Franklin County Courthouse and the Dietrich Cabin. Fishing opportunities can be found at Pomona Lake to the west, Hillsdale Lake to the east and Clinton Lake to the north.
Hotels and motels in Ottawa are mostly located off of the I-35 that runs south and east of the city. All motels and hotels offer easy access to area attractions and the highway.
